Raising Readers in the Hazelwood School District

  • #HSDReads Summer 2022

Hello Hazelwood families. The Hazelwood School District is very excited to announce our new literacy initiative. Our goal is to promote and encourage reading in and outside of the classroom. This summer, we will be launching our first summer reading initiative. There are three ways to participate:

    Kindergarten - 2nd Grade:

Option 1: Join the Kindergarten - 2nd Grade Summer Reading Initiative using Google classroom code lumzrpr. Download the weekly learning activities from the Google Classroom, or pick up the summer packet at your school or at The Learning Center beginning June 13, 2022. In addition to the packet, students can earn points by completing the weekly Progress Check-Up posted in the Google classroom.

Option 2: Read books from the summer reading list and submit a summary of the reading on a graphic organizer which can be downloaded from the Google Classroom, picked up at your school, or picked up at The Learning Center beginning June 13, 2022. Summer reading lists can be accessed on the district website.

Option 3: Do any combination of the two; however, participation will be tracked through activities submitted to the #HSDReads - Summer 2022 Reading Initiative form.

    3rd grade - High School:

Option 1: Choose any Newsela article to read and annotate. Complete the quiz for any article read to earn participation points. The more quizzes you complete, the more participation points you earn.

Option 2: Read books from the summer reading list and submit answers to a few questions about your reading through a Google Form. Summer reading lists can be accessed on the district website.

Option 3: Do any combination of the two; however, participation is tracked through the Google form.
