HSD community,
As a result of a new law, all districts are required to test all food/cooking outlets (faucets/water sources) for lead.
The good news is that we are ahead of the game because the law requires that all districts have this completed by the beginning of the 24-25 school year. We decided to be proactive and complete ours early. We were only required by law to have 25% of outlets tested. However, out of an abundance of caution, we had ALL outlets tested.
The district received the results of the initial tests last Wednesday, and during yesterday's review of such results with the industrial hygienist, we were informed that we are required to immediately restrict access to any outlets and notify parents and staff of which tested above the law's standards. We are restricting access to the outlets involved and send out notifications to parents and staff today.
Of 1,362 samples taken, 63 require further remediation. This is affecting 20 of our 32 buildings, and most have one or two outlets affected, but Central, West, and the OC have up to 11.
The initial remediation will be to flush the line and replace aerators, then retest. The outlets will be shut off, filtered, or have signage, by the end of the day.
