Hazelwood School District is Fully Accredited by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education

Hazelwood School District is a diverse school district in suburban St. Louis, Missouri, and is the second-largest district in St. Louis County. The district extends from I-70 on the west and the I-270 bridge on the east, covering 78 square miles, an area larger than the City of St. Louis. Its northern and southern boundaries are the two Great Rivers, the Missouri and the Mississippi, and I-270. The district includes the communities of Hazelwood, Black Jack, and Spanish Lake; a large section of the city of Florissant; portions of the cities of Bridgeton, Bellefontaine Neighbors, and Ferguson; and several square miles of unincorporated St. Louis County.

Faculty and staff educate students in the district’s 19 elementary schools, six middle schools, three high schools, early childhood education programs, gifted programs, and Opportunity Center (alternative learning). Students, faculty, and schools consistently receive recognition at the state and national levels for academic and professional achievements.

• Dr. Nettie Collins-Hart, Superintendent of HSD, was named 2019 Superintendent of the Year by the National Association of School Superintendents.
• Each year, graduates earn millions of dollars in scholarships.
• U.S. News & World Report has consistently ranked all three of the district’s high schools among the top high schools in the nation.
• All three high schools earned national certification for the Project Lead the Way® programs, which give students transformative learning opportunities.   
• Many of the elementary and middle school science and math teachers have completed advanced certification programs through Washington University in St. Louis. The Boeing Middle School Science Institute and the MasterCard Middle School Math Institute provided opportunities for teachers to earn 15 hours of graduate certification. The programs are designed for teachers in grades 4-8. They combine graduate-level coursework with professional development. HSD has partnered with the university since 2006.
