Elmer Jackson

Greetings parents and students.  My name is Elmer Jackson.  I am glad to be here at East High School.  I am a native of St. Louis, Missouri.  I was raised in the city and went to Vashon High, then, off of Grand Ave. I then went to college. While in college, I joined the national guard. I started off in communication till one day I realized I have a musci degree. Why am I out here in the woods with nature? Soon after 12 years, I auditioned and made the grade. I was in the military bands for over 27 years.

I truly enjoyed my time there. Plus, all the traveling around the world was just even better. I have traveled over 80 different countries around the globe.  Performing for US troops to Kings and Queens of other nations. I have been overseas with the army where I put down my instruments and picked up my weapons. My last tour of duty was in Iraq in 2010-2012. Soon afterward, I went and did my master’s degree.  I have it in Music Education as well as Educational Leadership.

I have taught all levels of music, such as bands, orchestras, and choirs.  I most recently retired from teaching in Texas and decided to head  back to my roots here in St. Louis area. I moved my family and all our animals to Missouri.  I am glad to be home.  I have taken some of my musical groups to Germany, England, Mexico, etc.  Some of the places students were on board ships. I also started and continued a community band in Texas.  Truly, everything.

I am for educating students to see their potential that they have not even had yet.  I want to give all my skills and my educational knowledge to my students here at Hazelwood East. Please, wanting to help them be successful is my goal for them.
