About Us

  • Hazelwood East was established in 1974 with the class of 1975 involved in split sessions with Hazelwood Central. The district had set the boundaries for East, but the students attended Central during the construction with the building opening to students the following year. walls separating them from other classes.

The Spartans home has been unique since its beginning with the open classroom concept. The majority of classrooms didn’t have four walls separating them from other classes. However, in the fall of 2003 our building undertook some drastic renovations including twenty additional classrooms, additional windows and lockers, a state of the art science building, and closed off classrooms.

Although the open classroom concept is now gone, students and staff interact as if these walls never existed. The Spartan population as a whole is extremely cooperative and booming with pride. They work together and support each other everyday as they pursue their educational goals. Alumni have witnessed the school evolve into a wonderful learning institution with an encouraging overall atmosphere.

At East the curriculum includes a broad selection of courses that help students build on their academic interests, no matter what they are. More than twenty honors courses, some of which may be taken for AP credit, are currently offered, as well as classes that allow students to receive Tech-Prep credit. Students can also take independent study in several areas which lets them acquire a deeper knowledge of that subject. However, the biggest academic points are the solid core requirements that better prepare our students for their next step.

In addition to excelling in the classroom, East Spartans also thrive on the athletic field and in other programs. East is a powerhouse for sports, but students also achieve grand accomplishments through our theater programs and community service. Along with numerous other clubs and events, the Spartan kingdom is full of extracurricular activities.
