Bachelors of Arts in Secondary Education from UMSL -English

Ms. Alicia Mata

Hello!

I am a Communication Arts teacher at Hazelwood East High.

I graduated from the University of Missouri St. Louis with a degree in Secondary English Education, and this is my sixth year here at Hazelwood East High! I graduate with my Masters in Education, Reading Specialist Certification, and Writer's Certificate in the spring. I grew up knowing I would want to become a teacher, and with how much I write and read daily, I knew English was the subject for me. My passion for the subject drives me to help students re-visit their love of reading that they may have lost over the years. I strive to provide up-to-date discussions using topics of interest to keep students engaged.

I live in the Hazelwood District, and my daughter attends the East Middle School 8th grade center, making this community very important to me! I am a jigsaw puzzle enthusiast, an avid board game player, and a painter. My personal goals are not only to increase the reading and writing skills of all my students, but to cultivate lasting memories and relationships, all while creating a safe space in my class.
