Philosophy
My philosophy is the belief that music education is not just about acquiring technical proficiency, but also about personal growth. Through music, students learn perseverance, discipline, and self-confidence. These are qualities that will serve them inside and outside of my classroom. My pedagogy is mostly the Orff Schulwerk approach, which emphasizes active music-making, creativity, and experiential learning. I believe in providing students with hands-on experiences that allow them to engage with music meaningfully. I also believe in the importance of self-assessment and reflection. Encouraging students to evaluate their progress and set goals for themselves creates a sense of ownership and responsibility for their learning journey in all subjects. My goal is to create a deep love and appreciation for music within each of my students. I aim to help grow their musical abilities, nurture their creativity, and engrave in them a lifelong passion for musical expression.
Additionally, I strive to develop their cognitive, social, and emotional skills through musical experiences. This includes using teamwork, self-expression, and cultural understanding when creating lesson ideas. In terms of course content, my goal is to use a curriculum that is rich in diverse musical experiences. From exploring various genres and styles to engaging in creative composition and improvisation, I aim to provide my students with a well-rounded musical education. Furthermore, I prioritize the development of fundamental musical skills such as rhythm, melody, harmony, and form, all while encouraging students to explore their unique musical voices.
