Mrs. Lisa Cummins- Reading Specialist

  • Mrs. Cummins is a passionate educator with extensive experience in teaching English Language Arts (ELA) to middle school students. She attended Fontbonne University, where she earned a Bachelor of Arts in Education with a minor in English, as well as a Bachelor of Arts in Interdisciplinary Studies. Mrs. Cummins further pursued her education by obtaining a Master of Arts in Education, focusing on Curriculum Design.

    Certified in the state of Missouri for grades 5-9 Language Arts, 9-12 English, and K-12 Special Reading, Mrs. Cummins has dedicated her career to fostering a love for reading and writing among her students. She taught ELA to 6th through 8th graders at Our Lady Queen of Peace in House Springs, Missouri, for 12 years and spent an additional year teaching ELA to 7th and 8th graders at St. Margaret of Scotland in South St. Louis City. Most recently, she taught ELA to 8th graders at East Middle from 2019 to 2023.

    Beginning with the 2023/2024 school year, Mrs. Cummins transitioned from the ELA classroom into the Reading Specialist position at East Middle, where she has the opportunity to work with and assist all the students at the school. Throughout her career, she has been recognized for her dedication and excellence in teaching, receiving the Golden Apple Teacher Award in 2012 and being selected as East Middle's Teacher of the Year in 2022.

    In her free time, Mrs. Cummins enjoys spending time with her husband, their 14-year-old son, and their 9-year-old daughter. She loves crafting, reading, and playing with the family’s two dogs. 

    Mrs. Cummins is excited to continue her journey in education and inspire her students to achieve their fullest potential.
