My name is Jeri Covington. I have over 25 years of teaching! I have worked in the St. Louis Public, Riverview Gardens, Ferguson Florissant, and Hazelwood School Districts, I earned teacher certification in 5-9 English Language Arts, 9-12 English, 9-12 Journalism and 5-12 Administration. This school year I will teach 7th grade English. 

I live in the district, and my children all attended school in this district. I am proud of the great efforts teachers and administrators have put forth to educate children to be their best.

Thinking back to my younger self, what made my school experience so great were my caring teachers, a great school curriculum and the lifelong friends I met while in school.

My goal this year is to make learning meaningful for students. I'm not so impressed with students making an A, but that they show mastery of specific objectives. This will be evident in test score results and in executing projects and performances. I have high expectations. I produce excellent students as a result.

In kindergarten, you learned the alphabet and numbers and colors, etc., all of you have mastered those objectives. As a 7th grader, I expect you to learn how to be critical thinkers, how to cite evidence from text and be able to form valid arguments with sound reasoning, how to be effective communicators…these are real life skills!
