Ms. Stewart attended Metro High School in St. Louis City, Missouri. She then received a Bachelor of Science in English from Truman State University in May 1990. Her Master of Arts in Elementary Education is from the University of Missouri-St. Louis Jan 1992. She received an Educational Specialist degree from Lindenwood University in May 2009. She is currently working on a doctorate in Instructional Leadership at Lindenwood University.
Ms. Stewart taught at Crosswind Elementary in Shelby County Schools, Tennessee for four years. Then moved back to St. Louis and taught for one year at Riverview Gardens High School. She spent the next three years teaching English Language Arts at Central Middle School. During the next seven years, she served as a School Improvement Facilitator, Instructional Guide, and District Professional Development Facilitator. She became principal of Gibson Elementary School in 2010. Gibson met its Department of Elementary and Secondary Education targets during her first year as principal. The school had not met its state goals the previous five years. Her school became the highest performing school in the District under her leadership. She provided leadership to Gibson Elementary for three years. She is the current principal of McCurdy Elementary in the Hazelwood School District.
Ms. Stewart was Teacher of the Year for Central Middle School 2002-2003 and Riverview Gardens School District Teacher of the Year 2002-2003. She is a Salute to Excellence Awardee (2014). She is a certified Kagan Trainer. She has a video titled” Using the Data Team Process as a Professional Learning Community to Increase Student Achievement. This video was recorded in 2010 under the direction of two Professional Learning Community facilitators. She also has presented at the Powerful Learning Conference in the area of data analysis and assessment. She is a proud member of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc.
