Degrees and Certifications:
Hi my name is Rhonda Spotanski I am the Reading specialist at Russell Elementary. I grew up right here in North County and I have taught for 19 years in the Hazelwood School District. I have taught 6th grade at Jamestown Elementary, Reading Specialist at Jamestown Elementary, 7th grade Reading intervention at West Middle, 6th grade English Language Arts, and 6th grade remedial reading classes. I view reading and literacy as ever-changing. Traditionally, reading, writing, speaking, and listening have been identified as the critical skills in literacy development. However, as information and technology shape our society, the definition of reading and literacy and its relationship to education has changed. The goal of literacy instruction is to support students by teaching them the strategies/tools to construct meaning in a variety of contexts in today’s world. Reading is the cornerstone of learning throughout all subjects. This development extends beyond the classroom and impacts all aspects of their life. Therefore my goal is to create lifelong readers.
