Dr. Channie Cotton


Dr. Channie Cotton is serving her 6th year as the Instructional Coach at Russell Elementary and 16th year in education, of which 11 years transpired in Hazelwood School District. Throughout her career, she has served as a Classroom Teacher, Reading Interventionist, Title I-Literacy Teacher, Reading Specialist, Summer School Principal, and Academic Coach. She is a Mississippi Native and a Critical Needs Scholarship Recipient that provided intensive reading interventions to K-3rd grade students with reading difficulties in the Mississippi Delta. Dr. Cotton has strong expertise in reading comprehension and literacy skills, highly accomplished in culturally responsive instruction, Google Education Suite technology tools, Balanced Literacy, professional development facilitation, and statistical data analysis. Providing instruction that is creative and innovative to support the development of problem-solving skills of learners is a personal educational belief that she strives to implement in all aspects of teaching and learning.   You may see her working throughout the building, observing instruction, modeling in classrooms, co-teaching with colleagues, planning with teachers, mentoring (current & former) students and teachers, providing specific feedback,  and offering support in the day-to-day instructional schedule.
