Teacher Message:
Greetings All,
My name is Grant Harris and I will be serving as the Associate Director of Bands here at Hazelwood Southeast Middle. The classes I will be teaching are 6th-8th Grade Band as well as percussion. I also have an associate director’s role at East Middle School. I believe students will put their best foot forward when they receive the respect they deserve, praise they deserve, and opportunities they deserve. It’s always best to push students to the top and provide the support they need to be successful. As a band director/educator in general, I tend to look after all my students and be the best teacher and mentor that I can be so I can help make students’ dreams come to life.
Biography:
I was born in Hattiesburg, Mississippi and raised in Montgomery, AL. My hobbies include playing my trombone, arranging music, and going out to explore different places. I graduated from Jefferson Davis High School (now known as Johnson Abernathy Graetz High School (J.A.G.) in June 2020, where I marched in my high school band and served as Section Leader/Brass Captain and Student Arranger. I also played in Second Line Band and performed at many different places in downtown Montgomery. After graduating, I then took my musical talents to Jackson State University in Jackson, MS where I marched in the famous “Sonic Boom of the South” Marching Band. I also joined many different organizations such as Men of Excellence, National Society of Collegiate Scholars, and Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity Inc. During my junior year, I joined the First Baptist Orchestra in Jackson, MS where I was getting paid as a professional musician. In the Boom, I had the opportunity to serve as a Student Arranger Fall ‘22- Fall ‘23 (Junior-Senior Year) as well as being on the show committee. Music has lead me to performing on America’s Got Talent, performing in the St. Patrick’s Day Parade in New York City, as well as performing in the Super Bowl alongside Usher. I hope to lead students to get the same opportunities I received during my school tenure.
