Degrees and Certifications:

Bachelor of Arts in Education, UMSL Master of Arts in Teacher Leadership

Mrs. Rau

This is my 17th year teaching ELA in the Hazelwood School District.  I have taught a variety of combinations of 7th and 8th-grade students at both North Middle and West Middle School.  During my nine years at North Middle, I had the opportunity to work with single-gender classes, the deaf and hard-of-hearing program, students in need of reading support, and advanced writers. Upon transferring to West Middle School, I taught both 7th and 8th graders and coached track.  Last year, I was selected as our building's Teacher of the Year.  Currently, I teach our wonderful 8th-grade students in both an in-person and virtual setting.

I graduated from Waterloo High School in Illinois.  My first attempt at college was unsuccessful, so after two years, I joined the Air Force.  I went back to school in stages while raising a family and finally earned my Bachelor of Arts in Education from UMSL and graduated Summa Cum Laude.  I then completed my Master's Degree in Teacher Leadership with the same honors.

My family resided in the HSD community for over 15 years before my husband John and I moved to South County.  My boys are alums of McNair, Northwest Middle, and West High. The youngest are also alums of the Mehlville School District. I love to run, hike, read, decorate my house, binge-watch TV, and redo/repurpose furniture with my husband. We have 2 cats and a dog.
