East High Graduate Ne'Vaeh Dudley Delivers Message to Peers while Raising the Bar at Howard University
East High alumna Ne’Vaeh Dudley is no stranger to academic accolades. Before selecting Howard University, she received over $500,000 in merit scholarships from organizations like St. Louis School Business Partnerships. Her first year at school has elevated her standards, driven by her courage to be ambitious and push beyond her comfort zone.
“Before moving to D.C. for college I was an avid homebody and frequently experienced homesickness,” Dudley shared. “The move was one of the biggest adjustments I've ever had to make in my life. However, I knew that I wanted to see what sights and experiences I could have beyond the boundaries of St. Louis.”
Since starting college, Dudley’s growth has been exponential as a TV and Film Production major, double minoring in African American Studies and Community Development. She has developed film, television, and media concepts through her media production class. Additionally, she has created a silent short film, directed and written a commercial, and produced a podcast that will be featured on Glasshouse Radio.
“I am still in the transitioning process of navigating D.C. life and culture as it is the polar opposite of the city that has shaped me into who I am thus far,” Dudley revealed. “I have slowly begun to immerse myself in D.C. culture by exploring the city and embracing all there is to learn. Dudley offered advice for those pursuing academics out of the state.“For those looking to attend college/university out of state, prepare to have days where you feel lost and out of place. Adjusting is a challenge, and it doesn't happen overnight. Secondly, find mentors who have been in your shoes to help you navigate that journey.”
These days, Dudley is in her second semester, taking six classes. She is a podcast intern for The Metaworker Literary Magazine and is excited about the projects she will work on with them. She is looking forward to being on more sets this year and creating more original bodies of work. Additionally, Dudley is a livestream videographer for Howard's basketball team and plans to continue doing so.
The District proudly celebrates Ne’Vaeh’s accomplishments in her first year at Howard University. As a role model for other students, we look forward to her continued success.
