A Message from the Superintendent about the 2021-2022 School Year
The district will welcome all students back to in-person school on Monday, August 23, 2021. I encourage all HSD parents to take advantage of this opportunity for face-to-face instruction. Our educators are eager to provide the unique educational, social, and emotional benefits of in-person school.
The return to in-person school last spring and subsequent summer school program revealed that our district has the appropriate COVID-19 mitigation strategies in place. With that success in mind, the mandatory mask requirement for all students and employees, regardless of vaccination status, will continue.
No school district can offer 100% protection from exposure to COVID-19, but the commitment to health our learning community has demonstrated will greatly reduce the risk of exposure in HSD buildings. Additionally, the district’s award-winningHelp Hazelwood Get Healthy public health campaign will continue to be used as a tool to combat the spread of COVID-19. To date, approximately 600 employees and 250 students have been fully vaccinated through the campaign.
HSD will not offer a hybrid or virtual school model this August; however, the state-runMissouri Course Access Program (MOCAP) is a virtual school option that families can pursue. For more information about MOCAP, visit the district website or contact a school principal.
As we embark on a new school year, I find comfort knowing that we have the talent, passion, resources, and character to successfully navigate any challenges we may face. Thank you for your unwavering dedication to HSD.
