Hazelwood Teacher Receives Emerson’s 2020 Excellence in Teaching Award
Joel Crenshaw, a teacher and Dean of Students at Hazelwood Northwest Middle School, has been selected as one of Emerson’s 2020 Excellence in Teaching Award recipients. The Excellence in Teaching Award recognizes outstanding educators for their dedication to teaching St. Louis-area students.
“I am truly humbled and honored to be recognized for my work. More importantly, I am thankful for the meaningful relationships I have built with students and staff during my 15 year teaching career,” Crenshaw said.
A teacher in Hazelwood School District (HSD) for seven years, Crenshaw said his favorite part about being a teacher is connecting with students from all walks of life and building a culture of empathy and self-growth.
“We are very proud of Mr. Crenshaw and thankful to have such a dedicated teacher on our team,” said Dr. Nettie Collins-Hart, superintendent of HSD. “Teachers like Mr. Crenshaw are the fuel that drives our culture of high expectations and excellence.”
The Excellence in Teaching Award represents the second major award Mr. Crenshaw has recently won. He is also the 2020 Hazelwood School District Teacher of the Year.
