Community Partners Donate Winter Coats to Students in Need
The Hazelwood School District partnered with the Black Jack Fire Protection District and Florissant Rotary Club to help keep kids warm during the winter months.
Firefighters donated 150 winter coats to the district on Dec. 5, a tradition now in its fourth year.
A group of HSD social workers and staff were on hand to collect the coats, purchased thanks to a $4800 donation from the Rotary Club collected at a fundraising event.
HSD’s social workers assess the needs of students in all grades, pre-K through 12th, and determine how many coats are needed.
Black Jack Fire Chief Ken Corbin and Board of Directors member Orlando Smith were instrumental in the donation, helping to make the process seamless so HSD staff can give coats to students in need the same day.
