Garrett Elementary Recognized for Sustained Success and Achievement
Garrett Elementary School has been recognized by the Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) for maintaining successful practices first recognized in 2016.
The school was honored as a Sustaining Exemplary Professional Learning Communities (PLC) School at the Powerful Learning Conference Jan. 28 in Osage Beach.
Garrett was one of only 10 Missouri schools to earn the recognition.
“It's a great honor. We realize that it helps our community as it shines a positive light on us which only helps everyone succeed,” Principal Dr. Erik Melton said. “We are by no means perfect, however, we are doing great things at Garrett and it is nice to be recognized, especially by the State of Missouri.”
School leaders showed how the school has sustained successful PLC practices and shared data showing that student achievement has either been maintained at a high level or grown since the implementation of those practices.
“Garrett runs as a community of professionals that work together to solve common problems through data collection, analysis, and then planning,” Dr. Melton said.
Garrett was first recognized as an Exemplary Professional Learning Communities School in 2016.
The Missouri Professional Learning Communities Project began during the 2003-04 school year.
