Eighth grade students from the Hazelwood East Middle 8th Grade Center got a taste of high school life on Nov. 28.
All eighth grade students took part in a transition day at East High School, which provides experiences and information to help prepare them for high school.
Students were welcomed into the school with a red carpet and performances from the EHS drum corps and cheerleading squad.
Activities were held throughout the day to help the middle school students learn more about high school.
One of the activities was a question-and-answer session with EHS seniors, who talked about differences between high school and middle school.
Students also had the opportunity to meet with counselors, learn about and sign up for school activities and clubs, and sit in on high school classes.
East High also will hold an 8th Grade Parent Meeting and curriculum night on Jan. 16 where parents can learn about freshman success, high school opportunities, and class registration.
East High School has held transition days for more than 10 years; the District's Student Recruitment and Retention Committee is in the process of implementing the East High transition day format at the other HSD high schools.
