Hazelwood Schools Awarded Arts and Education Grants

Education

The Arts and Education Council and Maritz have awarded three schools in the Hazelwood School District with grants to support classroom-based art projects during the 2018-19 academic year.

  • Hazelwood West High School will use funding to support its annual Writers Week, which showcases teacher and student songs, slam poetry, narratives, and plays.
  • Jana Elementary School will purchase rolling carts to make xylophones, the cornerstone of the school’s music program, accessible to all students, regardless of student age or size of instrument.
  • Keeven Elementary School will teach students to play guitar during music classes, using grant funds to purchase guitars, music stands, and electric tuners.

The Maritz Arts and Education Fund for Teachers provides critical funds to arts education programs serving St. Louis-area school districts. Maritz and the Arts and Education Council partner to offer this funding opportunity to individual schools and teachers to support projects that encourage creativity in the classroom.
