New Hazelwood Counselors Receive Character Chess Training
New Hazelwood School District (HSD) counselors at Cold Water Elementary School received training through a program called Character Chess. Character Chess is a research-based character education program designed to enhance the way the game of chess is taught to learners. It is a values based program that teaches the value of character and importance of being "good." The goal is to use the game of chess to help children build healthy relationships.
The program begins with defining character as adherence to a set of beliefs or values. It goes on to describe some of America's most closely held values that will lead to success in chess and in life. As a result of the program’s efforts, the Character Education Partnership (CEP) has recognized Character Chess at Cold Water Elementary School in the Hazelwood School District as a Promising Practice.
