GALACTIC is Hazelwood’s elementary component of the gifted program which provides special services to students living in the Hazelwood School District at the Learning Center. Students who attend GALACTIC have been identified as gifted with state approved criteria. Students meet one day per week and receive at least 300 minutes of services.
GALACTIC’s Vision: GALACTIC will be an exemplary elementary gifted program fostering a community of learners who model excellence, integrity, and ever-evolving skills for the 21st century.
GALACTIC’s Mission: GALACTIC will advocate for gifted children and provide challenges appropriate to their academic, social and emotional needs.
Services are provided on the following schedule:
Mondays Grade 5 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Tuesdays Grade 4 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Wednesdays Grade 3 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Thursdays Grade 2 9:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.
Thursdays Grade 1 9:00 a.m. – 12:00 p.m.
NOTE: There are no classes at the GALACTIC Center on Fridays. Teachers are in their home schools on this day.
If your child rides a bus, the bus will load at 3:50 p.m. First graders will load busses and go back to their home school at 12:05 p.m.
Car riders are dropped off and picked up at the back of the building.
GALACTIC functions with a board-approved curriculum. The courses we offer change each semester and are posted with a brief explanation on our website.
We ask that all families please provide us with an updated transportation form for 2019-20. Hard copies are being mailed out. Transportation form 2019-20
