Degrees and Certifications:
BA in Literature MA Education Reading Specialist
I grew up in a small town in Illinois. I was inspired to become a teacher by my grandmother, Margaret Thiel, who began her teaching career teaching grades 2-8 in a one-room country school house. She was a well-known teacher in my small town. As a young child I remember that while doing errands with her we routinely ran into former students. She remembered and loved them all. I attended college and majored in literature, and I’m passionate about teaching literature to children. I believe that the stories we read not only broaden our understanding of the world, but help us understand ourselves as well. This is my fourteenth year teaching. I’ve taught in Saint Louis City, Columbia Public Schools, and now for Hazelwood School District. Fifth grade is an especially important transitional year for students, I’m excited and grateful for the opportunity to get to know and work with your child.
