Townsend Elementary

Welcome to First Grade at Townsend Elementary! We are very excited to work with your children! We will encourage, nuture and respect your child as if he/she were our own.  Our goal is to help students become active in their education so they enjoy learning new ideas and concepts that they can take with them throughout their educational career. Our mission is to touch the hearts of each of your children while instilling a love for lifelong learning. We will give your children the skills and knowledge necessary for their successful futures, as well as instill an eagerness and enthusiasm to know more and question why. 

In the Hazelwood School District, first grade students are taught phonics through an incredible program called Fundations. We have 3 years experience teaching this program to first grade students. This program teaches handwriting, letter sound relationships, word families, and much more. Students then apply these skills to their reading and writing with great success.
