reading challenge update 2025

Even though it’s summer break, Hazelwood School District is continuing to promote our students’ education through the #HSDReads Summer Challenge.

Students and families throughout the District have been encouraged to read for at least 30 minutes every day, and log their minutes as part of the District-wide summer reading challenge. As of June 18th, HSD as a District has logged 40,988 minutes!

The schools with the most participation and minutes logged are:

  • Garrett Elementary – 6,941 minutes
  • McCurdy Elementary – 5,705 minutes
  • Armstrong Elementary – 5,655 minutes
  • Lawson Elementary – 4,545 minutes

The District has a goal of reading 500,000 minutes this summer, with the challenge coming to a close on August 3. Families can still enroll and start logging minutes spent reading!

Sign up today and help your school get on the leaderboard for the Summer Reading Challenge! Plus, students can earn badges to win awesome prizes at the start of the 2025-2026 school year! Details on how to enroll can be found in the graphic below.
