Hazelwood School District is encouraging students to “Level Up in Reading!” this summer through our 2026 Elementary Summer Reading Challenge, which runs June 1 through Aug. 21. This year, the district expanded the challenge to include Pre-K students, who can track their reading minutes using paper logs provided by their schools, while elementary students can participate through the district’s Clever or Beanstack App. All students are automatically enrolled in the challenge.

The district is challenging the HSD community to collectively read and log at least 500,000 minutes this summer. Students can explore new genres, revisit favorite books, and earn badges as they build strong reading habits throughout the break.

“Summer reading helps students stay engaged, build confidence, and continue growing as readers outside the classroom,” said Dr. Sherry Jordan, the district’s coordinator of teaching, learning, and curriculum (ELA) . “We’re excited to make this year’s challenge even more inclusive by welcoming our Pre-K learners to join the fun.”
