Hazelwood School District Names Dr. Bonita Jamison as New Superintendent
The Hazelwood School District Board of Education is pleased to announce the selection of Dr. Bonita E. Jamison as the district’s next superintendent, effective July 1, 2026.
Dr. Bonita Jamison
Dr. Jamison brings more than 25 years of experience in public education and currently serves as Superintendent of the Maplewood Richmond Heights School District. She will succeed Dr. Nettie Collins-Hart, who is retiring after 10 years of dedicated leadership to the district.
“I am truly honored to be selected to serve as the next Superintendent of Hazelwood School District,” said Dr. Jamison. “This is a community with a strong foundation and a deep commitment to students, and I am grateful for the opportunity to be a part of it. I look forward to listening, learning, and building relationships with students, staff, families, and the community as we continue the work already underway. This role is meaningful to me because of the people. I am excited to partner together to support our students, expand opportunities, and move Hazelwood forward with purpose. Thank you for the trust placed in me. I am ready to begin this work alongside you.”
“The Board of Education is confident that Dr. Jamison is the right leader to guide Hazelwood School District into the future,” said Sylvester Taylor II, president of the Hazelwood School District Board of Education. “Her proven track record of improving student achievement, commitment to equity, and strong focus on community engagement align with the values and priorities of our district. We are excited to welcome her to Hazelwood.”
Dr. Jamison is widely recognized as an accomplished educational leader whose work centers on student achievement, equity, and whole-child support systems. During her tenure in Maplewood Richmond Heights, the district achieved significant academic gains and earned a 98.5% score on the Missouri School Improvement Program (MSIP 6) review, the highest among K–12 districts in the state.
Her leadership has focused on increasing academic performance, closing opportunity gaps, and ensuring access to high-quality instruction for all students. She has also strengthened curriculum alignment and instructional consistency across grade levels while fostering transparency and trust through initiatives such as community roundtables, State of the District addresses, and “Coffee with the Superintendent” events.
Dr. Jamison brings a personal connection to HSD as a parent of a Hazelwood West graduate and former resident. A single parent of three, she is known for leading with empathy, high expectations, and a deep commitment to student success.
She holds a doctorate in educational leadership from the University of Missouri–Columbia.
The superintendent search process was conducted by Hazard Young Attea (HYA), with a strong emphasis on community engagement and stakeholder input. The Board of Education gathered feedback from staff, families, students, and community members to identify the qualities most important in the district’s next leader.
