A Message from the Superintendent

Greetings, Hazelwood School District Community,

In the spring months, our schools continue to be filled with energy, creativity, and achievement. I want to thank our students, staff, and families for the many ways you support learning and engagement across the Hazelwood School District.

Recently, we celebrated the incredible talents of our students at the HSD Spring Showcase in March. This districtwide event brought together student work from across our schools, highlighting projects in science, technology, engineering, art, and math. From impressive science fairs and robotics projects to a gymnasium full of artwork representing each HSD school, the showcase was a wonderful reminder of the innovation and creativity happening in our classrooms every day. Families also had the opportunity to connect with summer camp providers and community resources, making the day both inspiring and informative. Thank you to everyone who attended and supported our students.

March was also Music in Our Schools Month, a time to recognize the dedication of our student musicians and the educators who guide them. Music programs throughout the district play an important role in helping students develop creativity, discipline, and confidence. We are proud of the performances, concerts, and daily learning experiences taking place in our music classrooms and are grateful for the teachers who make them possible.

We have also been preparing for an important academic milestone for many of our students. Our Be the Best on the Test campaign is ongoing, as we are in the MAP and EOC testing window. This districtwide effort helps bring awareness to the testing schedule while also providing families and students with helpful information on how to prepare. The campaign encourages strong attendance, healthy routines, and positive mindsets so students can approach testing with confidence. Most importantly, it reminds our students that these assessments are an opportunity to show the knowledge and skills they have worked so hard to develop throughout the year. Thank you to our families for supporting students during this time by ensuring they get plenty of rest, arrive to school on time, and come ready to do their best.

We also want to thank everyone who attended our Festival of Nations event at West High. This annual event celebrated the rich cultural diversity that makes HSD such a special place. Families enjoyed a fun evening featuring student projects, music, dancing, performances, and delicious food representing traditions from around the world. Events like this highlight the many cultures within the District while bringing our community together in celebration and learning.

Thank you for your continued partnership and support of Hazelwood School District. Together, we will continue to create opportunities for our students to learn, grow, and succeed.

Sincerely,

Dr. Nettie Collins-Hart
Superintendent

Board Members New Order
Board Statement of Solidarity

The horrific, depraved murder of George Floyd left many in our community shocked and enraged. That anger has been further amplified by the senseless murder of Breonna Taylor and now Rayshard Brooks, all unarmed African Americans who were killed by the police. These and other recent instances of lethal attacks against African Americans are unacceptable. This is an American issue, not a black issue. As such, we all have a collective responsibility to fight against the ills of racism. The HSD Board of Education stands in solidarity with the millions of Americans stepping forward in this fight. We stand with our community to say, “enough is enough!”
