Camirah Foster Leaves a Lasting Legacy at Hazelwood Central

Camirah Foster doesn’t immediately see what others see in her accomplishments.
With more than 1,600 career points and school records in assists and steals, the Hazelwood Central senior has built one of the most impressive basketball careers in recent school history. Yet when her achievements are listed, her reaction is simple:
“When somebody says it out loud, I’m like, whoa, that does sound like a lot.”
That humility has defined Foster’s journey just as much as her performance on the court. Foster began playing basketball in second grade, developing her skills through years of dedication and guidance—especially from her father.
“I never really had a trainer—just my dad. He coached me through everything.”
From local teams to competitive AAU circuits, she steadily improved her game while learning valuable lessons about growth and opportunity.
“Some of those tournaments weren’t worth it; It wasn’t really getting us anywhere,” Camirah said.
Those experiences helped shape her perspective and fueled her determination to keep improving. When Foster entered Hazelwood Central as a freshman, the team had no seniors. She quickly became a key contributor, taking on responsibilities beyond her years with some hesitance.
“I’ll lead if I need to, but I don’t really want that spotlight,” Camirah shared.

Even so, her performance spoke for itself. Over four years, she earned numerous honors, including:
- Conference Player of the Year (2022–2023)
- Three-time First Team All-Conference
- First Team All-District
- Over 1,600 career points
- School records in assists and steals
Reflecting on her career, Foster acknowledges the rarity of her accomplishments:
“Who could do all that in four years?”
Foster’s journey wasn’t without obstacles. She recalls moments when the game's demands felt overwhelming.
“Sometimes I’d be like, I don’t want to do this anymore.”
Balancing academics and athletics also required discipline and sacrifice.

“You lose a lot of free time because you have a goal.”
Through it all, she remained focused—developing resilience that will carry her into the next chapter.
Foster recently committed to State Fair Community College, where she plans to continue her basketball career at the JUCO level while working toward her long-term goal of playing Division I or II basketball.
“I was overwhelmed, but I called back, and I was like, I’m ready.”
She also plans to major in exercise science and pursue a career in physical therapy.
“Everybody wants to play D1, and now I feel like I can,” Camirah said with a big smile.
As she prepares to graduate, Foster is focused on the impact she leaves behind. She has taken younger players under her wing and hopes to see the program continue to grow.
“I really want to give Paije Tolliver that leadership role to take this team where it can go.”

Her message to others reflects the mindset that guided her success:
“Follow your dreams. Don’t let anybody bring you down. If you can be that person, go for it.”
Camirah Foster’s impact on Hazelwood Central goes far beyond statistics. Through hard work, perseverance, and quiet leadership, she has set a standard for future student-athletes to follow.
As she continues her journey, one thing is certain—her legacy at Hazelwood Central is already secure.
