Beating the Odds: Hazelwood Schools Recognized for Student Growth

Ten Hazelwood School District schools are being recognized by the PRiME Center at Saint Louis University for their outstanding work promoting student growth during the 2024-2025 school year. 

Together, those 10 schools earned 18 PRiME Center Beating the Odds awards recognizing achievement in English Language Arts (ELA) and mathematics. The awards highlight schools that have demonstrated exceptional growth among students from high-poverty backgrounds, and are a reflection of the dedication, talent, and hard work of educators across the district. 

The PRiME Center tracks both single-year and 3-year average student growth scores to measure school performance. 

The 10 Hazelwood schools receiving recognition are: 

  • Brown Elementary – Mathematics (3-year, ending 2024-25)
  • East Middle School – ELA (2024-25 and 3-year, ending 2024-25)
  • Garrett Elementary – Mathematics (2024-25, and 3-year, ending 2024-25) and ELA (3-year, ending 2024-25)
  • Jamestown Elementary – ELA (2024-25)
  • Keeven Elementary – Mathematics (2024-25 and 3-year, ending 2024-25)
  • Larimore Elementary – Mathematics (2024-25)
  • Lawson Elementary – Mathematics (2024-25 and 3-year, ending 2024-25)
  • McCurdy Elementary – Mathematics (2024-25)
  • McNair Elementary – ELA (2024-25 and 3-year, ending 2024-25)
  • Southeast Middle School – Mathematics (2024-25 and 3-year, ending 2024-25) and ELA (2024-2025)

Several of the schools earned recognition for both their 2024-25 student growth as well as their 3-year growth ending in 2024-25, demonstrating sustained progress over time.
