Family Welcome Letter August 2026-2027

Greetings, HSD Families:

The first day of school is almost here, and I am excited to begin my first school year as your superintendent. I cannot wait to hear our students’ voices in the hallways, see them reconnecting with friends and teachers, and watch our schools come alive again. I will admit that I have a few first-day jitters too. New beginnings can bring excitement, anticipation, and uncertainty, and I imagine some of you and your children are feeling a little of each.

Whether your child is walking through our doors for the first time, transitioning to a new school, joining the Hazelwood family, or returning to a place they already know, I want them to feel welcomed, valued, and supported. I also want you, as their family, to feel that you belong here. You know your children in ways that we never will, and we need your voice, your perspective, and your partnership as we support them together.

Our theme this year is One HSD: Together We Thrive. Those words mean more than a theme to me. They are a commitment to how we will work with one another. During my first several weeks in Hazelwood, many of you have taken the time to introduce yourselves, share your experiences, celebrate what you love about Hazelwood, and speak openly about where we need to improve. I have listened. I know that strengthening trust between our district and our families will take time and consistent action. We will continue that work by listening, communicating openly, following through on our commitments, and working together when challenges arise.

While our Strategic Plan will continue to guide our work, I want to share my goals for the year:

• Ensuring a culture of support and respect among students, staff, families, and the community.
• Leading district improvement using innovative and effective change processes.

As we begin this year together, I am encouraged by the commitment to children I have seen throughout our Hazelwood community. I also recognize the tremendous trust you place in us each morning when you send your children through our doors, and we do not take this responsibility lightly.

Thank you for allowing us to be part of your child’s journey. I look forward to seeing you at our schools, hearing from you in our community, and working alongside you throughout the year. There is much for us to accomplish, and I believe that our best work will happen when we do it together. Here is to a wonderful school year and to becoming One HSD, Together.

Prop H - Thank You 2026-2027

Greetings, HSD Community:

Yesterday, our community demonstrated its commitment to the children of Hazelwood. I want to sincerely thank every resident who took the time to vote. Whether you supported Proposition H or not, your participation reflects the shared responsibility we have for the future of our district. I am especially grateful to those who placed their trust in Hazelwood School District. We do not take that trust lightly. We will honor it through transparency, responsible stewardship, and an unwavering commitment to our students, staff, and families.

This vote is not the finish line. It is the beginning of the next chapter. Together, we will continue building schools where every child has the opportunity to learn, grow, and thrive. Thank you for believing in Hazelwood. We are grateful for your partnership as we continue the work of becoming One Hazelwood. We are ONE HSD!
