Welcome to the Hazelwood Instructional Services Department! We guide the development and implementation of curriculum and assessments across the entire district, ensuring alignment with Missouri's Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) standards and the Missouri Learning Standards (MLS) for every grade level. Through ongoing collaboration with teachers, administrators, and stakeholders across the District, we're committed to continuous improvement that meets the diverse needs of all Hazelwood students.
What We Do
- Form and guide teacher committees, led by curriculum coordinators, to craft curriculum that meets the educational needs of Hazelwood's diverse student populations
- Deliver professional development and training on Hazelwood curriculum to principals and teachers
- Provide feedback on instructional practices and support the effective delivery of curriculum
- Promote culturally responsive teaching and integrate the District's emphasis on diversity, equity, and inclusion into training sessions
- Foster an environment that respects and values the diverse backgrounds of the Hazelwood community
- Employ a comprehensive assessment plan using state and district-developed assessments to measure progress toward each learning standard
- Analyze student achievement data to identify areas needing additional attention, particularly around equity
- Collaborate continuously with teachers, administrators, and stakeholders to evolve instructional services over time
- Ensure that all students have access to a high-quality education that meets their individual needs
