• If you have chosen to do weekly COVID-19 testing, as opposed to becoming vaccinated, please carefully read the entire information below.

As the district has previously communicated, all employees must provide documentation of their vaccination against COVID-19 by December 3, 2021 or participate in weekly testing beginning Monday, December 6, 2021. For those who have chosen to participate in weekly testing, there will be a free, in-district testing option available to all HSD employees, including SSD and Kelly Services staff (Although Kelly Services management has indicated all of their employees will be required to be vaccinated) who work in HSD schools. It is important to note that this testing option is a courtesy service, and the logistics will be run by Concentric/Gingko Bioworks through the Missouri Department of Health and Senior Services.

Employees still must complete the Daily Health Screen. Employees who have symptoms or believe they need to be tested due to close contact with a positive case should visit a healthcare provider outside the district. Please do not go to the HSD testing site.

Concentric/Gingko Bioworks uses a pool testing approach. Employees’ samples will be tested in small groups. If there is a positive test from a small group, all the employees in that group will be notified and must return to the testing location for a rapid test (usually the next day) to determine who in the pool is positive for COVID-19. From there, the contact tracing process will begin.

Employees who need to do a follow-up rapid test, which takes 15-30 minutes for results, must wait in their vehicle for the results to prevent additional exposures. If the rapid test determines that an individual is positive for COVID-19, the employee must notify their supervisor and immediately begin their quarantine. Thus, employees asked to return for a rapid test should bring their personal belongings in case they test positive and cannot return to their workspace. To be clear, employees waiting on results for a follow-up rapid test may not return to their workspace.

It is crucial that all employees follow the aforementioned process to prevent additional exposures.

The testing site is the Hazelwood School District Family Outreach Center, which is located at 13780 Old Halls Ferry Road. With the implementation of the Employee COVID-19 Testing/Vaccination Program, beginning Monday, December 6, 2021, the testing will be provided from 7:00 a.m. - 6:00 p.m., however staff should follow the schedule at the end of this email regarding the day assigned for their building to test.

Employees who plan to participate in the Concentric/Gingko Bioworks program must provide electronic consent of their participation before visiting the testing site by clicking on this link and entering the access code “HSD-FamilyCenter”.

Employees subject to weekly testing may do so through outside healthcare providers; however, the Concentric/Gingko Bioworks in-district program offers the following advantages:

    • There is no cost to employees (there may be a cost with outside providers).
    • This provides a convenient, centrally located, in-district testing site for employees.
    • Test results will be uploaded into the HR testing portal automatically (those who secure testing from an outside healthcare provider are responsible for uploading their test results).

If transportation is a barrier, please use this link - https://forms.gle/9u6dGM9TTmk1BCqJ6 - to complete a survey requesting transportation assistance or contact Laurie Van Horn at lvanhorn@hazelwoodschools.org with your name and building location no later than Thursday of each week.

Generally, employees should try to test outside of their regular work hours. Exceptions would include if an employee has to return to the site for a follow up rapid test or if they have made an arrangement with their supervisors that does not impact their normal job duties. The United States Department of Labor Fair Labor Standards Act requires that time spent testing (not travel time) be subject to pay for hourly employees. Therefore, any hourly employees who are subject to weekly testing should fill out a time and effort form for 0.5 hours (30 minutes) if they test outside of their regular work hours. The form must be completed and submitted each week to the payroll secretary/clerk in the relevant employee’s building. Again, this is for testing beginning the week of December 6 for only hourly employees who test outside of their regular work hours.

Employees will continue to receive daily reminder emails to submit weekly testing results beginning December 6, 2021. Those emails will include a link to a separate testing result upload portal for individuals not participating in the in-district testing program. The daily email reminders will also include a summary of the times, location, and the process for the in-district testing program.
