  • HSD School Safety Department is responsible for the safety and security of students, faculty, staff, and visitors while on HSD property. The Department is staffed by licensed school safety officers and safety monitors.

    Safety Officers and Safety Monitors are assigned to each high and middle school, and a safety team is assigned to all HSD elementary schools. Licensed School Safety Officers also monitor fire, intrusion, and closed-circuit digital video cameras as well as patrol the district after hours checking for hazards. The School Safety Department is a 24 hour Department.

  • Department Staff Overview

    HSD Safety Department's Command Staff - presently comprised of the Director of School Safety and Assistant Director of School Safety, who is responsible for the administration and management of the department, including the establishment and enforcement of departmental policies, guidelines, and procedures; ensuring professional accountability through leadership, training, and education; maintaining fiscal responsibility through effective budget management; and overseeing daily operations. 

    HSD Safety Officers are licensed security officers who perform mobile patrols of District schools and buildings; provide security for Board of Education meetings, as well as sporting and other extra-curricular activities and special events; and attend traffic detail as necessary.  The primary responsibility of a School Safety Officer is to protect HSD faculty, staff, students, and visitors.  In addition, these officers protect District property and enforce laws and Board policies.
