PHILOSOPHY of EDUCATION
Growing up in a home of educators, education was a high priority. I have tried to instill that into my students every year. I am also passionate about reaching all students. Having a child with a disability (hearing loss) has made me realize how important it is to make sure all students are reached in my classroom. As a science teacher, I use an inquiry based learning approach to all my lessons, where students discover the answers through questioning and hands-on activities.
WIth a father as a high school science teacher, I was immersed in nature and science while growing up. I am thankful daily that my “job” is something I truly love- the mixing of my passion for science and teaching. I began teaching at Jamestown in 2001 in this very classroom. Besides being a teacher, I am a mother of 2 children, Kennedy and Jackson. I couldn’t do my job with the support of my wonderful husband, Kevin. When I’m not in the classroom I enjoy running, binge watching Netflix and spending time with my family.
GOALS in the CLASSROOM
I work daily to make sure that the curriculum written by the Hazelwood school district is implemented with fidelity in my classroom. This is essential for student growth through the grade levels.
I also work to ensure that my classroom is a positive environment for learning for all students of all abilities.
