Dr. Rhonda M. Key, joined HSD in July of 2021 and serves as Deputy Superintendent. Dr. Key brings more than 30 years of education experience to HSD and is noted for her work in student graduation success and college or career placement.

Prior to joining HSD, Dr. Key served as Assistant Superintendent of Secondary Education at Jennings School District. She also served as Principal of Jennings Senior High & College Prep Academy and Director of Secondary Education at Jennings School District.

Dr. Key earned a bachelor’s degree in biology and a master’s degree in educational and secondary administration, both from Lincoln University, and an education specialist degree in administration and supervision from the University of Missouri-Columbia. Additionally, Dr. Key holds a doctorate in curriculum and instruction also from the University of Missouri-Columbia.

Dr. Key has received numerous honors and awards for her leadership and work in education. Recently, Dr. Key was awarded the 2019 Merchant of Hope Award from Resilience in Action, the 2019 Woman of the Year in Education from Black Women Networking Missouri and Illinois, and the Principal of the Year from the St. Louis Association of Secondary Schools Principals.
