Mr. Michael Toigo
Welcome to the 2021 – 2022 school year! I am so excited to begin a new year at Hazelwood North Middle School and to start building relationships with your children in Room 316.
Before we start the new-year, I thought I’d give you a bit of information about myself. First of all, I am Saint Louis born and raised. Kirkwood has been home for most of my life, and I will always be proud to call myself a Robinson Road Runner, Nipher Knight, and Kirkwood Pioneer. After high school I took my talents to the University of Missouri where I pursued a degree in Middle School English and Social Studies Education. My father told me when I was born that I could do whatever I wanted in life, but his one exception was that he forbid me from being a Kansas Jayhawk. From my experiences at Mizzou, I believe I chose the perfect college, and through my experiences in the College of Education, I firmly believe that I chose the perfect profession for my future. I have a strong passion for reading and writing, and want to instill that passion in my students as a skill that they will use for the rest of their life.
In my classroom, students will learn essential skills to improve their reading fluency, comprehension, and vocabulary, which in turn will help them to improve their social, intellectual, and writing skills. My goal is to help your students become better readers and writers through the exploration of multiple kinds of texts, discovery of new words, and practice of reading every single day. Students will have the opportunity to rotate through stations that allow them to read independently, as well as work with groups to discuss different elements of literature. I have high expectations for all students and believe that we can achieve great things as long as we work hard. Through hard work and close attention to reading, my goal is to improve each student’s lexile and MAP scores by the end of the year, and to prepare them for their next step in life: high school.
Please feel free to contact me with any questions you may have about your students work. Thank you for your time and Go Panthers!
