To decrease the need for repairs and replacements of Chromebooks, the district is asking all parents and students to follow the ABCs of Chromebook care! The Avoid Breaking Chromebooks (ABC) Campaign is about teaching students responsibility and preventing the waste of district funds.
Students are responsible for the general care of the Chromebook they have been issued. This school year, there has been an alarming increase in Chromebook damages. Much of the damage we see is not caused by accidents.
Currently, there are more than 4,000 damaged Chromebooks that need to be repaired or replaced across the district. Of those Chromebooks, 70-80 % have cracked screens, missing key(s), liquid spills, damaged power port, damaged webcams, and graffiti. Each device costs $275 and is paid for by district funds (taxpayer dollars).
How to Practice the ABCs of Chromebook Care:
Students
-
Keep food and drinks at a safe distance from your Chromebook.
-
Insert cords, cables, and removable storage devices carefully into the Chromebook case.
-
Students should never carry their Chromebook while the screen is open.
-
Do not lean on top of the Chromebook.
-
Do not place anything near the Chromebook that could put pressure on the screen.
-
Do not place anything in the carrying case that will press against the cover.
-
Do not poke the screen with sharp objects.
-
Do not place anything on the keyboard before closing the lid (e.g. pens, pencils, notebooks).
-
Notify your teacher immediately if the Chromebook becomes damaged.
Parents
-
Discuss why it is important for your student to take care of their Chromebook.
-
Discuss with your student what happens if their Chromebook becomes damaged.
-
Encourage your student to care for their Chromebook devices.
-
Do a daily device check-in with your student for any damages.
-
Notify your student’s school if their Chromebook becomes damaged.
The success of this campaign depends on student and parent participation.
