Brown Elementary's first Family Picnic Day offers games, activities
Brown Elementary School Principal Matt Phillips plays "Duck, Duck, Goose" with some of his kindergarten students during the school's first Family Picnic in St. Ferdinand Park in Florissant. Students, parents and staff members celebrated the end of a successful school year with activities and non-competitive carnival games.

Brown Elementary School celebrated its first Annual Family Picnic Day at St. Ferdinand Park in Florissant last month.

More than 600 people, including students, staff and families, gathered for a day of outdoor fun. Everyone received a T-shirt with Brown’s PBIS expectations, Respect and Responsibility and the quote, “We are Family” on it. The day started with team and cooperative activities in which rooms that were paired all year (fifth- and second-grades, fourth- and first-grades and third-grade and kindergarten) participated. The school was then divided into multi-grade teams of about 12 students and staff members took the teams to assigned activities.

These activities included a water sponge toss, a “knock the can down” game played with super soaker water guns, a lollipop tree, sand volleyball, a ring and a hula hoop toss among other games. The cafeteria brought sack lunches and the day ended with a visit from an ice cream truck, with the Brown Student Council paying for each student to get ice cream.
