Curriculum and Professional Development
Dr. Mary Piper was named the associate superintendent in July, 2008. She previously served as the assistant superintendent for curriculum and professional development for two years. With more than 30 years of experience in education, Dr. Piper manages all of the curriculum, instruction and professional development district-wide.
Prior to moving into district-level administration, Piper served five years as the principal of Lawson Elementary School. She also spent more than 20 years working in various roles for the Francis Howell School District. She served as a program coordinator, reading specialist, English as a Second Language teacher and learning disabilities/behavior disorders teacher.
Piper received a bachelor’s degree from Fontbonne College, and a master’s degree and doctorate degree from Saint Louis University. She is a member of the American Association of School Administrators, Association of Curriculum and Development, International Reading Association and National Staff Development Council.
Piper and her husband, Bob, have two daughters, Kate and Samantha. In her spare time, Piper enjoys reading.
